Posting Signs on Utility Poles

Many residents are unaware of the laws regulating the posting of signs on public utility poles in the city of Cordell. The use of utility poles, highway signs, traffic control signs, or any other public structure for the purpose of advertising, personally or commercially, is prohibited.

If you notice signs in violation, please contact us so they can be removed.

The City of New Cordell Code of Ordinances Section 10-324 states, in part, the following:

“It is unlawful for any person to place any advertising matter of any kind on any utility pole...in the city.”

Violation of this ordinance carries a $159.00 fine (per occurrence) and other fees as may be incurred in the removal of advertising matter and/or reparation of damages to the poles from the use of tape, rope, staples, or any other type of attachment material.

This ordinance does not prohibit the use of public easements for posting temporary yard signs. Although, signs which are not removed in a timely manner will be considered for a littering violation.
