Tennessee Man Arrested for Kidnapping, Domestic Violence

Challenger

Leonardo Challenger, 43, of Gallitin, TN, was arrested at the Quail Run Apartment Complex by Cordell Police just after 5:00am on 02/23/2014 on complaints of domestic violence and kidnapping.

Police received a frantic phone call from the victim who stated she had been assaulted and held against her free will by Challenger.

Cordell Police Officer Franco Barone was immediately dispatched to the scene where he met with the victim. The victim quietly led Officer Barone to Challenger who was asleep in the living room of her apartment. He was taken into custody without incident.

Officers observed injury to the victim and received a statement from the victim that alleges Challenger assaulted her at about midnight and refused to let her leave her apartment or use her phone for about three hours. The victim was able to sneak away and use a telephone when Challenger fell asleep. The victim alleges the argument stemmed from her attempt to end her relationship with Challenger. The victim alleges Challenger is having an extra-marital affair with her and has a family back in Tennessee. She states Challenger became jealous and violent when he checked the call logs on her cell phone.

"I am always glad when events such as these come to a peaceful ending," commented Chief Daniel Allen. "My commendation to the professional response of our officers and the ability to contain a situation before it became more violent," Allen said. "We are extremely glad the victim was able to contact us when she did. We can only imagine the nightmare that could have become of this situation."

Challenger appeared before the Washita County Court on 02/25/2014 and is being held on $100,000 bond on charges of kidnapping, domestic violence, and malicious injury to property.
